Bespoke furniture lays out the space and identity of Nuno Mendes’ Michelin starred restaurant in a Grade II listed building

Interior

London, UK

Area: 120m2

Found inside a converted town hall building, this project required a bar and restaurant to be designed into existing small spaces. We applied interior and furniture design in an intelligent way to maximise usable space, notably designing solid and high-backed furniture to create intimate spaces ideal for both social interaction and seclusion. By creating bespoke lighting fixtures – including majestic pendants in the restaurant space and an elegant chandelier in the bar – we introduced features that added a feeling of authenticity to give the listed building a befitting visual impact.

Collaborating with Paris-based textile designer Tzuri Gueta, we created striking silicone artworks to juxtapose with the organic quality we introduced to the location.

Bespoke lighting and furniture, and the view on the open kitchen contribute to the fine dining experience of the Michelin starred restaurant.

Reinstating the public entrance of the former Bethnal Green Town Hall, the restaurant venue brings the facade back to life.

Solid, high-back furniture creates intimate spaces to modulate social interaction and isolation.

The bespoke chandelier is a decorative piece that mixes craft and technology in a carefully designed surface that responds to its context and function. Working in collaboration with textile designer Tzuri Gueta, the silicone jewel-like threads create a bespoke internal landscape.

The 500 threads’ length and colour were designed, computed and then produced manually creating a contemporary interpretation of traditional ceiling ornaments.
