Design of a new restaurant for up-and-coming Portuguese chef Leandro Carreira in London.

This 250m² space on the ground floor of a commercial unit required a transformation from a blank shell into an inviting 100-cover restaurant space for this chef’s first solo venture. Taking inspiration from his Portuguese heritage and cuisine, the design reflects delicacy, simplicity and a hint of authentic craftsmanship, while creating a stylish icon on London’s dining scene. A feature wall in the back formed by hexagonal wooden marquetry spills down into the flooring with a changing colour gradient, while hand-made Portuguese tiles add a unique mixture of textures to the rich surfaces. Focusing the budget in areas that would have the greatest impact, we also designed bespoke tables, while a chandelier made from an old aeroplane engine adds a point of unique interest.
