Architecture and Interior | Design & Extension for a resort in Lapland | Location: Davvi, Lapland, Finland | Area: 4200m2
Masterplan, refurbishment and extension of a hotel and activity complex in a difficult Arctic environment.
A multi-site development in a geographically challenging environment, our choice of materials was vital to ensuring robustness, energy efficiency and construction ability during the four months of the year the site was not frozen. Our designs accounted for changing ground levels affected by snowfall at different times of year and wayfinding points to avoid visitors getting lost. Spaces were designed according to their varying thermal needs, supporting sustainable energy consumption and creating smart transitions between the interior and exterior. A façade – with a motif that takes inspiration from a local knitting pattern – ties the design together while blending in with the local environment.
